Being grateful and feeling emotions
Here's a little list of things I am grateful for right now (not in any particular order):
- having a home with a beautiful garden
- still being able to work, which gives me something to focus on and means I don't have to worry about my finances
- being able to call my mum
- having food in the fridge and being able to cook
- the beautiful weather
- having amazing colleagues
- my boyfriend who makes me smile every day
- living in the countryside and being able to go out for a walk without worrying too much about social distancing
- music
- being able to keep in touch with my friends
Now, I want to say that just because I have all of these things and can acknowledge and appreciate them, does NOT mean I am not entitled to feel anxious/sad/isolated/overwhelmed right now.
EVERYBODY is entitled to emotions. We are humans, not robots. Even if you have all of the things above, some of the above, or none of the above you are allowed to experience emotions. Never let anyone make you feel guilty or bad for experiencing NORMAL emotions.
It's okay not to be okay. No matter who you are, where you come from, or what you have and haven't got. Not just during a global crisis, all the bloody time!
